Cases of Counterfeit Japan Visas Detected
On June 10, 2019, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines posted a visa announcement stating that they intend to strengthen screening of visa applications. This comes after receiving fake travel documents, which include arrival stamps and visas for Japan ‘in an attempt…to deceive the Embassy’.
As of writing, any valid visa/s from OECD-member countries is a general applicable requirement to get a South Korea tourist visa. Those who are able to present one are exempt from submitting their Income Tax Return or ITR. (Before the implementation of the Express Visa service, those who are able to submit original and photocopies of their visas from countries like Japan, USA, and Canada also enjoyed a shorter processing time.)
Following the discovered cases of forged Japan travel documents, the Korean consular office will seek assistance from local authorities to investigate on the matter.
Here’s the full post from the Embassy’s website:
Recently, the Embassy has detected several cases of fake Japan visa and/or fake arrival stamps to Japan, in an attempt of the visa applicants to deceive the Embassy as if they have travelled to Japan.
The Embassy will be requesting for investigation on the matter to the relevant Philippine authorities. Since similar cases are expected, visa screening will be strengthened as well.
Earlier this month, an informal announcement about lightening the tourist visa requirements for Filipinos was made by South Korea’s Ambassador to the Philippines, as reported by ABS-CBN News and Philstar.com.
